Okay it’s not really a toy and not exactly a %100 PRO Grade device, but it’s dang-nab-it close. It’s a Full-Frame 35mm Full HD Universal Lens support video camera, though pretty much a Cinema grade device.
It is the Sony NEX-VG900. $3300 CDN Retail though I have found several that knock of the top $300.

With the NEX-VG900, you options on lenses is not really limited at all, with the included LA-EA# adapter as well as the built in E-mount, you can use pretty much any lens from Video camera, and photography camera with the NEX-VG900.
You are not given a lens that is permanently built-in to the camera, with very little options on changing that lens look or feel. Usually all you could do is add on a fish-eye/wider angle adapter or a magnification adapter and basically nothing more.
Instead you are not given a lens at all when purchasing this unit. Unless you find a ‘Lens included’ package. Rather you are not forced to pay the extra $$ for a lens you may never use or want to use. This allows you to save a little to go grab any lens you want to use with the NEX-VG900.
I have watches probably over an hours worth of footage online, ether showing and or filming with the NEX-VG900. I have read many forums, comments and seen negative sections of video reviews about certain peeves with the NEX-VG900. Yet I have not found any of them to keep me from wanting to use this unit. It does far more then my 6-7yr old Sony HDR SR12. Which has and continues to be good to me. Though I get frustrated quickly with it and even abandon entire video ideas because of the incredibly low viewing angle, and sound capturing of the camera. I have actually tested my Nokia Lumia 800 Cell, my Sony DSC-H50 photo camera, and they both have a wider viewing angle.

With NEX-VG900’s maxed out sensor size, it’ll not only allow fantastic image quality compaired to my SR12, but give a full frame insanely wide angle viewing “with the proper lens” compared to the SR12, which can only do about half the viewing amount if I bought the $200 discontinued wide angle lens for it. “not worth it, should have had wide view to start.”
As well as the amazing low-light capability compaired to any of the camera I’ve used, which instantly ‘CHC’ as soon as the sun thinks about setting, or you enter a room not iluminated by 70,000,000 candle power light bulbs.

Sony NEX-VG900 also has a far more powerful and capable microphone in it and it faces the bloody right way, unlike the SR12 and all lo-level consumer camera that have the microphones facing backwards, or upwards if your lucky. I never understood how a mic listen to the ceiling would capture sounds in front of the lens properly. And of course you can attach a number of devices to the top rail/handle. Such as mics that work better in high winds, lighting kits, etc.
The SR12 does a good job with audio, but if the battery is changed, it defaults to ‘Normal’ which then records everything at high levels, including the internal HDD hum. Another point in NEX-VG900’s favour, as it uses SD Memory cards, which emit 0’zero noise, as they have no moving parts.
The Sony NEX-VG900 is a powerhouse device, with a lot more then a handful of features. I’d would say it would be especially good for use in films/videos that are: documentary, traveling, interviews, or even running around capturing conventions and events. NEX-VG900: Great for almost any type of film making. It’s all on what lens you pick and how you use it all in conjunction with each other, I’m sure you could make pretty darn great looking anything if you approach it right.
So to sum up’ish, I very much greatly look forward to the moment I can pick one of these up after I have done all my internal brain requiring handheld tests with an actual unit in-store. Though when TV/Film making begins I will step it up with say a FS700 or yet to be released FS1300 which will be out most likely at the time.
